An antique Russian Orthodox icon of Mother Of God Kazanskaya. Circa: 19th century. The hand painted icon with egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wooden panel with raised kovcheg borders. Inscribed on the backside in Russian. The icon shows the Virgin with her head inclined towards the Infant Christ at her left. The Christ Child is depicted in a frontal pose, raising his right hand in a blessing while his left hand is covered by the folds of his himation. Saints are depicted on the sides of the icon.
