Alexej Georgewitsch von Jawlensky, surname also spelt as Yavlensky, was a Russian Expressionist painter active in Germany. He was a key member of the New Munich Artist's Association, The Blue Rider group and later The Blue Four. He met Kandinsky and was greatly influenced by his use of color as form. Jawlensky became affiliated with the German Expressionists. He traveled in Germany and France before World War II. He soaked up the work of the Post Impressionists and the Fauves, as well as early Picasso and Matisse. He was an important part of an international circle of modernists who collectively changed the face of art in the early 20th century. One of a kind artwork.
