Robert Mackechnie was a Scottish painter and draughtsman, who produced representational and abstract works, born in Glasgow, where he studied at the Academy, then at Fettes College, Edinburgh. After a long debilitating bout of rheumatic fever Mackechnie was privately tutored, attended Oxford University, then gained his diploma at Glasgow School of Art. Eventually returned to London where Mackechnie joined the RBA and Seven and Five Society and showed at RWS. He is known for landscapes, portraits, abstract.
