A popular Soviet satirical artist, Lev Samoilov started producing posters during the war, while serving as a sailor with the Baltic Fleet. Eventually he was transferred to work as an artist for the Baltic Fleet newspaper. His posters and caricatures regularly appeared in Leningrad through the war.
