Boevoi Karandash is a creative association of Leningrad artists who produced propaganda posters and collections of satirical drawings in the middle of the 20th century. This phenomenon of mass art is often referred to as such. Artist Ivan Astapov was one of the Boyevoi Karandash founders back in 1939, and later served as the artistic director of the peacetime poster artists collective of the same name. Valentin Kurdovs work as a satirical posterist was also largely tied to Boyevoi Karandash. Kurdov also worked in a variety of other graphics genres.
