A WWII Russian Soviet era propaganda poster, Vosstanovim Promyshlennost Leningrada, Restore the Leningrad industry, by Pyotr Gorbunov, Pyotr Yesin, 1891 to 1968, No. 96, from the Combat Pencil, Boevoi Karandash series. Published by LOSKh, Leningrad. Circa: 1940s. Marked and stamped in the print. Boevoi Karandash is a creative association of Leningrad artists who produced propaganda posters and collections of satirical drawings in the middle of the 20th century. This phenomenon of mass art is often referred to as such. Pyotr Gorbunov cut an unusual figure on the Leningrad arts scene. A veteran of the Civil War, he attended the Communist University, a school for party propagandists; later, he also studied at VKhUTEIN, where he received a diploma of a graphic artist. A rare combination of a skilled artist and a political appointee, in early 1930s he held the position of the art director of LenIZOGIZ. WWII and Cold War Russian Soviet Propaganda and Military Posters, Graphic Art Prints, and Collectibles.
