He was Isidore Isous right hand man for nearly half a century, but he began to distance himself from Lettrism in the 2000s. Lemaitre was an impressionist painter influenced by the 19th Century artists. Choosing the field of landscape painting, he painted in a loose, free expressionistic manner. Using almost linear strokes he blocked in trees, grass, distant hills and flowing rivers. He preferred the seasons of spring and summer, and his compositions are light and airy. The overall effect is a harmonious balance of tones that captures nature’s gracious beauty. One of a kind artwork.
