An antique Russian Orthodox icon of Saint Nicholas, traditionally depicted as a bishop delivering a blessing and holding a book of Gospels with the blessing figures of Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ on the sides. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wooden board. The icon is overlaid with a 84 Silver oklad or riza, Faberge, adorned with engraved detailed patterns. Marked with a Russian Silver standard hallmark, and a makers mark. Circa: mid to the late 19th century. Provenance: A similar silver icon by Faberge was sold at Christie's on November 26, 2007 Lot 189. Russian Orthodox Religious Items and Collectibles.
