Toyohara Chikanobu, Japanese, 1838 to 1912, better known to his contemporaries as Yoshu Chikanobu, ukiyo e triptych color woodblock prints on paper, Tea Ceremony, from Tokugawa jidai kifujin no zu, Noble ladies of Tokugawa era. Circa:1895. In this triptych by Chikanobu, a group of court ladies adorned in elegant attire are enjoying a tea ceremony. Inscribed with calligraphy and a red seal, upper and to the center right. Toyohara Chikanobu, better known to his contemporaries as Yoshu Chikanobu, was a Japanese painter and printmaker who was widely regarded as a prolific woodblock artist during the Meiji epoch.
