Philip Kappel, American, 1901 to 1981, etching on paper, Sugaring in New England, 1970. Signed in the plate and in pencil, lower right. Titled in pencil, lower left. Framed. Stamped Henry B. Anderson and inscribed, on the backside. Philip Kappel was an American printmaker, illustrator and collector, born in Hartford, Connecticut. He studied at Pratt Institute and, for a time, studied marine art with Philip Little in Salem. He was a noted collector and authority on Chinese porcelain and Japanese art. He sailed around the world six times gathering the themes for his etchings and expanding his collection. His work is in many American museums. American Graphic Art Prints and Collectibles.
