George M. Hathaway, English, 1852 to 1903, oil painting on board depicting a seascape with ships. Signed lower right. Framed. George Hathaway is known for Coastal view, seascape, lighthouses, marine painting. George Hathaway, a native New Englander and marine painter, was apparently self taught. He is remembered for his intimate views of the northeast coastline. He also spent a great deal of time in Portland, Maine, painting the well known Portland Head Lighthouse and other marine locales along the Maine coast.
