The first is inscribed, Peter Westphal, rare, Vietnamese woman in North Vietnam, Vietnam War Hanoi, circa 1968, on the backside. The second is inscribed, Peter Westphal, Junge aus Hanoi, a young communist soldier, Vietnam War, rare copy, circa 1964, on the backside. In early 1970, graphic artists Peter Westphal and Wolfgang Speer, 1926 to 2015, embarked on a six week study trip through the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. They were supposed to make portraits of North Vietnamese people and soldiers in the war against South Vietnam and the US. After they had left, 50 selected works were presented in the exhibition Menschen des sozialistischen Vietnam, People of Socialist Vietnam in Hanoi.
