Lot 0351: JAPANESE TOTAI CLOISONNE ENAMEL ON PORCELAIN BOTTLES

41 reviews

A pair of Japanese covered Totai enamel on porcelain bottles. The wares are enameled with polychrome figural medallions representing blossoming flowers surrounded by floral, foliage and geometrical motifs on the tirquoise ground made in the Cloisonne technique. The cover of the ware is made in the same design with a handle on the top. Unmarked. Totai Shippo is the name given to Japanese cloisonne on ceramics, both on earthenwares and on porcelain. It has a similar appearance to metallic cloisonne ware, with metal cloisons sometimes individually filled with different colours however, some parts of the surface might be left decorated as normal blue and white porcelain, as is done on the inside of the lid of this item.
