A West African, Mali, Bandiagara region, Dogon peoples hand carved wooden window shutter or small door used on buildings or storage facilities such as a granary, consisting of several wide panels held together with iron nails. The surfaces are hand carved in relief with stylized motifs of a human figure and relief ornaments who represent past generations of ancestors, and such imagery was not only intended to be decorative, but also protected the building with their power.
