A pair of rare West Africa, Republic of Benin, patinated bronze figures of Royal leopards for ceremonial use. The figure is adorned with detailed engraved ornaments, and a traditional raised swirl design. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century. The leopard appears most frequently as King of the forest, his reputation is as great as that of the OBa, he had his own association of leopards. The leopard Benin bronze casting represents the strengths and the power and was seen as a symbol of justice in the kingdoms of OBa, Nigeria west Africa. Provenance: Ex.
