The WWII type Nazi German Third Reich Star of the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross, also known as the Iron Cross with Golden Rays, was intended to be awarded to the most successful general officers. Although manufactured during World War II, it was never formally instituted or bestowed. The only known example, modeled after the World War I version but featuring the 1939 Iron Cross centerpiece, was discovered by Allied forces at the end of the war. It is currently housed in the West Point Museum. It is widely believed that Reichsmarschall Hermann Goring was the intended recipient. Marked on the back side. Second World War German Collectibles, Third Reich Memorabilia.
