Lot 0037: ANTIQUE OIL PAINTING SIGNED WILLIAM LATHROP

41 reviews

An oil on canvasboard painting depicting a hillside landscape signed W.L. Lathrop on the lower left. Framed. William Langson Lathrop, American, 1859 to 1938, was the founder of the New Hope Pennsylvania Impressionist Colony and was known as one of Americas premier landscape painters in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His style was Tonalist, which coincided with Impressionism but was not plein air nor focused on light, sunny colors. He was not innovative in style, but much admired for the strength and skillfully conveyed mood of his canvases. One of a kind artwork. Antique American Landscape Paintings And Wall Decor Collectibles.
