Vladimir Aleksandrovich Serov, Russian, Soviet era, 1910 to 1969, pastel painting on paper, Valya, depicting a portrait of a girl, 1962. Signed with initials and dated, upper left. Titled, lower right. Framed. additionally inscribed, on the backside. Vladimir Serov is known for Naturalist portrait, figure and still life paintings, poster design, graphics, teaching. Vladimir Serov was a successful Soviet painter, graphic artist, teacher, Professor, President of the Academy of Arts of the USSR in the period between 1962 to 1968. Many of his works, executed in the genre of socialist realism, he devoted to the historical and revolutionary subject matter. At some point several of his paintings, such as Lenins Walkers, have been included in all Soviet school textbooks this fact clearly demonstrates how close Serovs art was to the official Soviet artistic ideology and what value it has acquired during that years.
