A black-and-white photograph by Yevgeny Khaldei, 1917 to 1997, a Soviet photographer and Red Army naval officer. The piece depicts an elderly woman against the backdrop of city ruins. Titled The Tragedy of Murmansk and dated 1942 on the backside. Khaldei is best known for his World War II photograph of a Soviet soldier raising a flag over the Reichstag in Berlin, the capital of the vanquished Nazi Germany, at the end of the war.
