An oil on canvas painting attributed to Marcel Dyf, French, 1899 to 1985. The Post Impressionist artwork depicts a young woman applying red lipstick. Signed lower right. Framed. Note: Born in Paris, Dyf moved to Arles and set up a studio painting the countryside around him. Early in his career, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais, Salon d Autumne and Salon des Tuileries. After the war, he would travel seeking inspiration but always returning home to Brittany. Taking inspiration both from the Impressionists, particularly Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and the Old Masters, his portraits expertly distilling Classical and Modern art. In 1956 he met art dealer Sir Christopher Wade in London who was instrumental in showing his work into the UK and the United States. One of a kind artwork.
