A pair of antique 19th century Russian Orthodox icons. A wedding couple is a conventional name for a composition of two icons, the Savior and the Most Holy Mother of God, which is used during the sacrament of the wedding for blessing. Mixed media paintings: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board with kovcheg. The icons are covered with 84 silver Riza or Oklad, protecting covers with repousse work and engraved details. Each is inscribed in Church Slavonic, lower to the center. Marked with a Russian Silver standard hallmark, and a makers mark. Both icons come with a golden frame and a wooden kiot showcase.
