A Russian Soviet era porcelain plate, a commemorative piece dedicated to the 525th anniversary since the birth of Ali-Shir Navai. Hand-painted cobalt blue portrait in the center, with title in Arabic and Russian on the border. Gilt rim. Marked PZ, Pesochnoye, dated 1967, artists signature Leontyeva on the backside. PZ stands for Pervomaysky Porcelain Factory, established in the village of Pesochnoye, Yaroslavl region, in 1884. Ali-Shir Navai, 1441 to 1501, was a Timurid poet and mystic. He is considered to be the founder of early Turkic literature. Navai is especially venerated in Uzbekistan, which was part of the Soviet Union, and as a result, the poet had entered the canon of Soviet literature.
