A pair of antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox icons. A wedding couple is a conventional name for a composition of two icons: the Savior and the Most Holy Mother of God, which are used during the sacrament of the wedding for blessing. Mixed media paintings: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board with kovcheg. The icons are enclosed in gilt silver riza or oklad covers with repousse detailings. Velvet backing.
