An antique Dutch book titled Statenbijbel, The State Bible, is the first complete noted translation of the Bible into the modern Dutch language authorized by the Synod of Dortrecht in 1618. Because of its influence, the Statenbijbel has been included in the Canon of Dutch History, a list of 50 required subjects that should not be omitted from history classes in the Netherlands. The lot is the first edition of the translation published in 1637. The book is prefaced by the text of the Synod's edict. Leather over oak board covers, binding with raised bands.
