An antique Italian bronze sculpture of Dionysus, called Narcissus after a bronze sculpture from Pompeii, was kept in the Archaeological Museum of Naples. Circa 1900s. The figure depicts a thoughtful young man standing naked on a round base with a wreath of ivy on his head. A goatskin is slung over his left shoulder, and sandals are on his feet. The statuette, originally considered an image of Narcissus, later came to be considered an image of the god Dionysus. Dionysus, called Narcissus, is a bronze ancient Roman statuette created between the 1st century BC and 1st century AD. It was found during excavations in Pompeii in 1862.
