Oil on wood panel painting. After the 1779 artwork titled Portrait of Sir William Chambers, R.A. by Sir Joshua Reynolds, 1723-1792, a renowned British artist. The original is now in the Royal Academy of Arts, London. The lot was executed ca. 1800. Unsigned. Provenance: Christies, Sale of April 12, 1946. Sir William Chambers, 1723 to 1796, was a British architect of the Georgian period who was one of the leading Palladian-style architects of his day. He helped found the Royal Academy of Arts in 1768 and was its first treasurer. Collectible Classic Fine Art, Portraiture, Old Master Painting.
