Lot 0379: ANCIENT ROMAN IMPERIAL PERIOD GLASS PILGRIM FLASK

41 reviews

An ancient Roman, Imperial period, glass pilgrim flask. Circa 2th to 4th centuries AD. The pilgrim flask is made of light green glass with a flattened, rounded shape and a short neck, as well as a pair of handles connecting the neck to the hangers. Pilgrim flasks like this one were made by blowing out a standard shaped flask and then giving it a flat shape. The name of this vessel comes from bottles similar to flasks that were once worn by pilgrims. Scientists have also suggested that such flasks were used as vessels for sacred oil. Ancient Roman Glassware Collectibles.
