Attributed to Zofia Stryjenska, Polish, 1891 to 1976, tempera painting on canvas laid on masonite board depicting a portrait of a young highlander woman seen straight ahead, depicted dancing in traditional costume. She is dressed in a white, tight skirt bordered with a white and red ribbon. On the head there is an orange scarf with a typical floral motif falling on the shoulders, in the background there is a green fleece and in the distance there are mountain chaises against the blue sky and to the right there is a fragment of a highlanders house. Zofia Stryjenska was a Polish painter, graphic designer, illustrator, stage designer, and a representative of Art Deco. Along with Olga Boznanska and Tamara de Lempicka, she was one of the best known Polish women artists of the interwar period.
