Lot 0001: AMERICAN ABSTRACT LITHOGRAPH BY JAMES ROSENQUIST

41 reviews

Color lithograph on paper by James Rosenquist, 1933 to 2017, an American artist associated with the Pop Art movement. The artwork depicts abstract fireworks. Titled Cabeza de Vaca, Explorer. Ca. 2003-2005. Signed by the artist and numbered 101 out of 300 in the lower right. Red mat, black frame. Gallery stamp on the backside. The title is derived from the artists interest in the 16th-century Spanish explorer Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca who landed around Tampa Bay, Florida, near one of Rosenquists studios. Cabeza de Vaca was eventually captured by Native Americans, who dubbed him a sorcerer. Collectible Contemporary Limited Edition Graphic Art Prints.
