A pair of Hungarian Herend Rothschild Bird porcelain coffee pot and bowl. Circa the early 20th century. The bowl with a curved edge is adorned with hand painted images of birds and insects. The coffee pot has a lid that is adorned with a rose figure on the top and surrounded by hand painted images of insects. The body of the pot is adorned with a figured in floral style green handle with separate stems that are attached to the body and are in harmony with the overall floral design. The elegant nose is decorated with a hand painted gilt linear pattern. The body is adorned with images of birds and insects. Each item is marked on the bottom with a blue Herend Hungary stamp. Rothschild Birds is one of the most known decorations of Herend porcelain items. The Rothschild Herends design is also known as Couple of Birds and represents a pair of birds playing with a golden necklace. This picture comes from the family history of the Rothschilds when a pair of birds stole a necklace from their house.
