An antique 19th century Russian Orthodox icon depicting Saint Michael, The Guardian Angel, and Saint Martyr Larisa of Gotfa. Hand painted in egg tempera, gold leaf and gesso on a wood panel. The borders are adorned with intricately hand carved patterns. The Saint Martyr Larisa of Gotfa suffered in the first half of the fourth century, along with other martyrs. By order of King Ungerik, they were burned in the temple during a church service. Such icons were usually family heirlooms and depicted patron saints.
