Attributed to Manjit Bawa, Indian, 1941 to 2008, oil painting on canvas, Cows and Dogs, 1989. Signed and dated, on the backside. Completed with an original certificate of authenticity, signed by Manjit Bawa. Manjit Bawa, born in Dhuri, Punjab, India, was an Indian painter. Manjit Bawas canvases are distinguishable in their colors, the ochre of sunflowers, the green of the paddy fields, the red of the sun, the blue of the mountain sky. He was one of the first painters to break out of the dominant grays and browns and opted for more traditionally Indian colors like pinks, reds and violet. Livestock such as cows, goats and bulls are an important subject for the artist, embodying the theme of the coexistence of all creatures.
