Lot 0271: ANCIENT BRONZE AGE HITTITE BRONZE ZEBU BULL SCULPTURE

41 reviews

An ancient Hittite cast bronze figurine of a zebu bull. Bronze Age, 2nd millenium BC. Bulls were a recurring theme in the ancient Near East, most likely symbolizing the leader of the herd, and thus representing strength and virility. Besides, it could be a dedication to the Storm God, the Hittite deity who was often associated with bulls. The Hittites were an Anatolian Indo-European people who formed one of the first major civilizations of Bronze Age. Between the 15th and 13th centuries BC, the Hittites were one of the dominant powers of the Near East, coming into conflict with the New Kingdom of Egypt, the Middle Assyrian Empire and the empire of Mitanni. Historical Collectibles, Archaeological Relics, Metalwork And Sculpture.
