An antique 19th century Russian Orthodox icon of Mother of God with Jesus Child in Tikhvinskaya iconography. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. The icon is enclosed in a gilt 84 Silver riza or oklad, a protecting case with engraved details. Hallmark of 84 silver standard, a makers mark, dated 1867, and other marks, on the rim. Inscribed in Church Slavonic, lower to the center. Theotokos of Tikhvin is one of the most celebrated Orthodox Christian icons that is said to be one of the icons written by St. Luke the Evangelist.
