An antique Russian Orthodox icon of St. John the Forerunner, Prodromos. Hand painted in egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. The icon features an embossed 84 gilt Silver riza or oklad, engraved traditional detailed patterns, and embossed elements. Inscribed in Church Slavonic, upper right and left. Hallmarked with an 84 Imperial Russian standard, a makers mark, date, and other marks. Circa the late 19th century. A German paper label is on the backside.
