Lot 0203: CAST METAL CHERUBS FIGURES AFTER EMILE BRUCHON

41 reviews

A pair of Belle Epoque manner patinated cast metal sculptures depicting a boy cherub holding a torch while standing on a celestial globe with stars and scrolling on it after the original bronze sculpture by Emile Bruchon, French, 1806 to 1895. each is mounted on a round shaped base. Emile Bruchon was a quintessential Belle Epoque decorative artist known for his lamps, clocks, and bronze statuettes. Throughout his works, he often chose to depict historical or mythological figures, such as the title character of Faluberts 1862 novel Salammbo. Bruchons work is characterized by finely detailed decorative motifs embedded in otherwise utilitarian objects.
