Oil on board painting. American, early to mid-19th century. After the 1796 engraving titled Liberty in the Form of the Goddess of Youth by Edward Savage, 1761 to 1817, an American portrait painter and printmaker. The artwork depicts a pesonification of Liberty giving water to the bald eagle. The US flag with Phrygian cap are depicted in the background. The piece symbolizes the triumph of the United States over tyranny of Britain. The original engraving was in private art collection of Thomas Jefferson. Unsigned. Wooden frame. Overall good vintage condition. Signs of wear and age. Has some stains and craquelures. Has scuffs in paint and chips in frame. Refer to photos. Sold as is.
