A Japanese enamel over copper plate. The interior of the ware is adorned with a triple polychrome enamel design representing a symmetrical image of a butterfly and a pair of Phoenix birds surrounded by floral and foliage motifs in the upper part; reticulated and geometrical ornaments to the center; and a rodent seated on a grape vine made in the Cloisonne technique. The backside of the plate is decorated with foliage, geometrical, and foliate scroll patterns on the turquoise ground made in the same technique. Unmarked. Circa: the first half of the 20th century.
