Taino stone yokes were a part of the ballgame tradition that was developed in ancient Caribbean circa 1000 AD. Referred to as batey, it was a game that combined recreation and rituals, drawing upon creation myths and customs. Many of these traditions were documented in 1497 by Ramon Pare, a friar who was part of Columbus second voyage to Hispaniola.
