An antique Japanese, late Meiji era, Kyoto School enamel over copper censer koro or incense burner. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century. The sphere shaped body is enameled with polychrome medallions depicting blossoming flowers, surrounded by floral, and swirl motifs made in the Cloisonne technique. The neck is adorned with a polychrome ribbon design with blossoming made in the same technique. A cover is made in the same design. Unmarked. The Kyoto School is the name given to the Japanese philosophical movement centered at Kyoto University that assimilated Western philosophy and religious ideas and used them to reformulate religious and moral insights unique to the East Asian cultural tradition.
