An antique Russian post card with a black and white photograph, depicting a studio portrait of Kristaps Kristapovich Weiland Schultz, 1885 to 1987, a Russian athlete, circus performer and athlete, wrestler, coach. Circa: early 20th century. Titled, Schuktz, Germany, lower right. In 1908, 23 year old Weiland first went on tour to Germany, where many perceived him as a compatriot. Achieved victory at tournaments in Cologne and Munich, becoming German lightweight champion. The championship took place in Hamburg. Weiland, on the recommendation of the owner of the championship Georg Lurich, is given the pseudonym Schultz, which later became part of his surname. The photograph not only captures the intensity and physicality of the sport but also serves as a striking piece of early 20th century Russian photographic art. Matted.
