Lot 0011: DIVINE COMEDY WOODCUT BY SALVADOR DALI WITH COA

Color wood engraving on paper by Salvador Dali, 1904 to 1989, a Spanish Surrealist painter. The artwork belong to the famous Divine Comedy illustration series. Titled Inferno, no. 29, Muhammed. Published by Les Heures Claires in 1963. Numbered 97 out of 150 in the lower left. Signed by the artist in pencil in the lower right. Associated American Artists certificate of authenticity with Dalis signature is attached to the backside. White mat, golden frame. In 1950, to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the birth of Dante Alighieri, the Italian government commissioned Salvador Dali to illustrate the Divine Comedy. Dali created 100 watercolor illustrations in the course of ten years. The series was first presented to the public at the Museum Galliera in Paris in 1960.
