Attributed to Konstantin Makovsky, Russian 1832 to 1919, oil painting on wood board, depicting a Russian girl spinning wool, wearing a kokoshnik and a traditional Russian sundress. The painting is created in a warm color palette, beautifully composed and balanced. Housed in a gilded and carved wooden frame with a metal name plate engraved, K. Makovsky, at the bottom center. On the backside there is an attached MacDougalls auction house paper label. Konstantin Makovsky was one of the most popular Russian artists at the end of the 19th century. His portraits were commissioned by members of the Imperial family and St. Petersburg nobles. Makovskys paintings participated in exhibitions of the Association of Wanderers, the St. Petersburg Society of Artists, and the painter himself was called in the press An inspired singer of the era.
