A mid 20th century color woodcut print Twilight Toil by Allen Lewis, Allen Lewis, 1873 to 1957. Pencil signed by the artist lower right. Matted and framed. Allen Lewis was a printmaker, illustrator and teacher. He studied at the Buffalo Art Students League under George Bridgman. He left to study in Paris in 1894 enrolling in the Ecole des Beaux Arts. He produced his first etchings in Paris and his work was included in an exhibition with Whistler and Pennell in 1900. Returning to the United States he settled in New York. Alfred Steiglitzs Gallery 291 gave him a show of 43 etchings and drypoints. Throughout most of his career he worked on bookplate commissions and illustrating books.
