Douglas Mazonowicz, British, 1920 to 2001, a limited edition serigraph on paper, Friendly Totem. Circa: 1981. Signed in pencil, lower right. Numbered in pencil, 22 of 275, in pencil, and stamped, lower left. Douglas Mazonowicz was born in Swindon and a graduate of the Swindon College of Art. He served in the Royal Tank Regiment during WW11. After the war he became a freelance artist and teacher of graphics and decided to focus on 'the accurate recording of prehistoric paintings in various parts of the world, working for a number of years in the caves of France, Spain and Africa. He wrote several books about prehistoric art. His work was often constructed by use of a slide projector onto drawing paper, over which he drew black outline details of the subject, transferring the image then to silkscreen using modern base oil paints. His art has been acquired for the permanent collections of the British Museum, the Carnegie in Pittsburgh, and the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
