George Ramsbottom, British, 1903 to 1989, mixed media, pencil and ink, painting on paper depicting a cartoon illustration depicting a WWII era Airforce military scene. Inscribed, No Smoking, to the center right. Unsigned. Provenance: from the Nicholas Winter Private Collection, UK. George Ramsbottom studied at Longworthy Road School, Manchester, then went on to work for the Manchester Evening News as a copy boy. The editor saw his talent for drawing and George illustrated a humorous travelogue series called ‘Percy Phlage for the publication. He also did freelance work for D. Hawksey commercial art studio, and drew cartoons for The Northern Light and The Brewery Record. In 1936 he moved to Dundee and joined DC Thomson as a staff artist. Following service in WWII George Ramsbottom returned to work for DC Thomson until the 1970s. He drew cartoons for The Wizard, Bunty, Hotspur, Billy The Kid, The Hornet, The Dandy etc. Vintage and Modern English Illustration, Cartoon Scene Paintings, Wall Art, and Collectibles.
