A vintage Modernist Japanese bronze sculpture, depicting a mouse seated on top of a bag. Circa the late 20th century. On the rectangular base, there is a gilt plaque with the word Daikoku in Japanese. Daikoku or Daikokuten, is one of the seven gods of happiness in Japan. Most often he is depicted with a bag and mice. The mouse is Daikokus helper when it gnaws holes in his bag, magical rice falls from heaven to earth directly into peoples hands, bringing prosperity and good luck.
