An antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. Decorative gilding. The icon depicts four local saints by two trees, on which two icons are placed. The images represent the Crucifixion and Mother of God Hodegetria with Jesus Child and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. These two icons miraculously appeared in 1539 on trees in the Okovetskaya volost, in the area of the present day city of Rzhev. The icons were soon glorified for their miracles.
