Lang Shining was an Italian Jesuit missionary who became a court painter in China during the Qing Dynasty. Born in Milan, Italy, in 1688, Lang Shining arrived in China in 1715. He quickly gained fame for his artistic talents, particularly in Western-style painting and oil painting techniques, which he skillfully combined with traditional Chinese painting styles.
