Attributed to Karl Hagenauer, Austrian, 1898 to 1956, Art Deco manner carved green onyx ashtray featuring a dancing African figure on the top. Unsigned. Circa: mid 20th century. Karl Hagenauer was an Austrian designer best known for his Art Deco sculptures. Often inspired by African art, Hagenauer explored an aesthetic similar to Pablo Picassos early Cubist paintings, which were also influenced by North African masks and figurines.
